A weekly publication with multiple issues/languages across the globe. It was first published on March 3, 1923 as the first weekly news magazine in the U.S.
Co-founded by Briton Hadden and Henry Luce. After Hadden died in 1929, Luce became a leader in the media industry.
In 1989, Time, Inc. merged with Warner Communications, and has been part of AOL Time Warner since 2000. In 2003 they reverted to the name: Time Warner.
The magazine has only ever published one official editorial, in 1974, calling for the resignation of Richard Nixon.
Time is also known for its signature red border, which only changed once in the magazine’s eighty year history—the issue released shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, which featured a black border to show mourning.
People magazine was originally inspired by Time’s People page.
